Dear AIPC Members
I am pleased to welcome you to the AIPC 2010 Annual Conference hosted by and held in the remarkable City of Liverpool. Liverpool is a renaissance city that has seen incredible levels of investment and regeneration through its year as European Capital of Culture 2008.
The urbanisation and expansion of Liverpool was originally brought about by the city being a major port. Liverpool's status as a port city has contributed to its diverse population, which, historically, was drawn from a wide range of peoples, cultures, and religions, particularly those from Ireland. The city is also home to the oldest Black African community in the country and the oldest Chinese community in Europe.
Liverpool is now a destination rich in history and culture and we look forward to showing you the delights of this amazing, vibrant city which bustles with life, music, sport and culture. From the Beatles to football, there is something for everyone to discover and enjoy.
The team at ACC Liverpool have put together a social programme for your conference to reflect the city’s diversity which will enable you to sample the unique charms that Liverpool has to offer, an exciting complement to your event which we are delighted to host at ACC Liverpool, an iconic building key to the cities economic sustainability driver.
The city we are proud to call home is a dynamic and thriving place, where visitors have always received a warm welcome. Perhaps it's our maritime history that originally made the city such a welcoming place to stay, but it's a part of the city's personality that remains to this day, whether the visitor is here on business, to study, on holiday, to light up our stadiums or to follow in the footsteps of the ‘Fab Four’.
There is so much more I could tell you about this wonderful city, but I will leave you to experience it for yourself on 3rd-7th July 2010, at AIPC’s Annual Conference and 52nd General Assembly.
My team and I look forward to welcoming you soon!
Councillor Warren Bradley
