Conference on combating food-related crime - 27-28 February 2012 - Brussels

This conference is organised within the framework of the Better Training for Safer Food (BTSF) programme. BTSF is a training initiative, managed by DG SANCO, which aims primarily at training Member State official staff involved in verifying compliance with EU food and feed law, animal health and welfare rules and plant health rules.

This conference will be on the one hand, an opportunity for an exchange of views on the legal and judicial instruments already available and possible improvements to them and, on the other hand, on the existing information network and control procedures and their possible reinforcement. It will also provide the chance to reflect on ways for closer and strengthened coordination of all involved actors in this new type of organised criminal activity.

This conference will aim to bring together policy and decision makers in the food safety, law enforcement and judicial fields at EU and Member States' level. The target audience will be EU Member States, candidate countries, EU Institutions and other Commission services.

Commissioner Šemeta, responsible for Taxation, Customs, Anti-fraud and Audit, and Commissioner Dalli, responsible for Health and Consumer Policy, will respectively open and close the conference.
